“We
must keep investing to help everyone back into work”
Julie Cooper Labour candidate today called on local Tories in Burnley to
abandon their plans to scrap extra jobs for young people.
Julie Cooper said:
- “We have got to keep investing in jobs through the recovery.
That’s why I am backing the Future Jobs Fund which will bring more
jobs to the area, jobs that David Cameron wants to slash.
- “In previous recessions unemployed young people were left on the
scrapheap. We can’t let this happen again.
- “That’s why I support Labour’s guarantees - an
education or training place for young people up to 18. And a job or
training place for 18-24 year olds out of work for six months.
- “But the Tories would scrap the Future Jobs Fund meaning 17,400
fewer jobs in our area for young people and the hardest hit.”
Notes to Editors:
- The numbers of Future Jobs Fund jobs in North West region is 17,400
– jobs that the Conservatives would scrap.
- The FJF means 120,000 jobs for young people and 50,000 for the hardest
hit areas. The Labour Government has already announced over 100,000 FJF
jobs across the country in areas such as environment, sports and the arts,
giving young people a proper job with a proper wage as a first step on the
jobs ladder.
