Julie Cooper is Burnley's Labour Campaigner, working hard to get the investment we need to restore pride to our town.
About Julie Cooper
Julie Cooper is Burnley’s prospective parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party, with the representative motto: “Julie Cooper : From Burnley, For Burnley.”
In December 2009, Julie who is a Burnley Councillor and mother of two was selected to represent Labour at the next General Election when MP Kitty Usher announced she would not stand for re-election.
Julie says: “If I am successful in becoming your MP I will not be making wild promises but I will guarantee to give you strong and effective representation in Westminster.”
“I will give one hundred per cent for Burnley and my commitment to honest, decent representation can be relied upon. I am committed to delivering good jobs with decent pay and conditions, excellent healthcare, opportunities and facilities for the young, a safe and dignified retirement for the elderly and affordable, decent housing.”
Julie lives in the Briercliffe area of Burnley along with husband Brian, with whom she has run Cooper’s Chemist for 23 years. They have two children, David (24) and Anna (21) who both grew up in Burnley.
For five years Julie has served on Burnley Borough Council representing Bank Hall Ward and is currently the leader of the Labour Group. She is a qualified English teacher and a life long supporter and season ticket holder of the Clarets.
Julie says: “Burnley is my hometown, the town where I live with my family, the town where my children grew up and I understand the issues that matter to local people. I know there’s still a lot of hard work to do but I’m dedicated to delivering a bright future to our town.”
" If elected I will work with strength and enthusiasm to give the people of Burnley and Padiham strong representation in Westminster. "
My top priorities are:
• Good, Well Paid Jobs with Decent Working Conditions –Building on the foundation laid by the Labour government I will work with the university staff at the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing to attract new employers to town. I will work hard to co-operate with existing employers, helping them to expand their work force and apprenticeship schemes.
• Excellent Healthcare – I want the very best for me and my family and for you and yours. Nothing less will do and you can be sure that no one will fight longer and harder to achieve this than I will.
• Opportunities and Facilities for the Young – Every young person deserves a chance in life and I will work hard to make sure that they get the help and support they need.
• Respect and Dignity for the Elderly – Everyone has the right to a secure and dignified retirement which is why I am making this one of my top priorities.
• Decent Affordable Housing - Everyone has the right to live in a decent house and I will work hard to make this a reality.
