At a packed meeting held on Monday this week Burnley Labour Party officially launched its General Election Campaign.
Labour’s Candidate, Julie Cooper said: “The coming General Election is set to be the most important for a generation. During the next four months I will be out and about in Burnley and Padiham every day with my team listening to residents’ concerns and discussing my priorities for our town. It is time for a change. Burnley needs an MP and a Government that understands the struggles and aspirations of local people. I will contest this election on positive, fully costed policies. People need to understand that we are not all the same and that there is a real choice. There will be no extra borrowing, no reckless spending but there will be a fairer distribution of the resources that are available. I want people to be confident that the next Labour Government will serve the interests of the majority in a fair and decent way. In terms of specific policy decisions we will introduce legislation to make Work Pay. We will tackle unemployment amongst the young by guaranteeing a job or training for every young person. We will defend the rights of workers. We will save our NHS and Freeze Gas and Electricity Bills. We will also scrap the cruel Bedroom Tax and end the scandal of exploitative Zero Hour Contracts. I believe that our policies will make a better Burnley and a better Britain”
